Description: The Excel Fundamentals for Field Epis course explores basics of using Microsoft Excel, covering the skills that field epidemiologists need when they are conducting outbreak investigations. The course covers how to create and manage a linelist, clean data, conduct descriptive data analyses and present data to communicate the findings.

Learning outcomes: By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Appropriately name and backup a file

  • Navigate a new linelist/spreadsheet

  • Enter and clean linelist data

  • Create a data dictionary

  • Use formulas to generate new variables

  • Filter and sort data for analysis

  • Use basic formulas and functions

  • Create pivot tables, charts, and tables, including epi curves

  • Label charts and tables accurately and succinctly, then paste into a report or presentation

Time required: It will take approximately 5 hours to complete all modules. Modules do not have to be completed in one sitting.
